Sergeant and Deadlines

My name is PFC Hutchinson, Joel D and this is my exposition about gathering cutoff times. Cutoff times are there which is as it should be. Without a cutoff time to meet you could basically haul out whatever it is you’re taking a shot at for to the extent that this would be possible, which is not really a profitable method of working. It is hence imperative to comply with whenever constraints that have been set, in light of the fact that there is a desire with respect to the Non-dispatched official that you will concoct the merchandise inside a set time-frame.If you neglect to fulfill a time constraint, you are left looking incredibly amateurish, and in the event that you build up a notoriety for missing cutoff times, this could hamper your profession progress. Plainly, at that point, it is critical to comply with time constraints for the good of you just as your Non-dispatched officer’s. On the off chance that you have been set a cutoff time, at that point the odds are that your Non-appointed official isn't the one in particular who will be legitimately influenced by your lateness. Your Non-charged officials may need to reply to different pioneers and disclose to them why there has been an inability to meet the set plans. Peruse this â€Å"The Secrets of Haiti’s Living Dead†This considers gravely them and yourself. On the off chance that you have been set a cutoff time you have to meet it. You may not get a reference on the off chance that you didn't concoct the vital things on schedule, which is the reason it is basic that you sort out your time and figure out how to organize. In the event that you neglect to do as such, you could end up with a developing pile of work that never appears to contract. You unquestionably don’t need to end up in the situation of disclosing to the unit sergeant or First Sergeant you have been entrusted by that you won't total your work on time.It is humiliating for you and baffling for your Non-appointed officials, and you may well cause a punishment including the Uniform Code of Military Justice. Cutoff times are especially imperative to meet when you are a pioneer of troopers. Cutoff times keep your psyche concentrated on what you have to do and by when, however regardless of whether you work in an office you may have cutoff times to meet. On the off chance that you need to establish a decent connection with your senior Non-appointed officials, you need to finish take a shot at time. You can’t continue putting off what should be done when there is an approaching deadline.Unfortunately, work doesn’t do itself thus you need to just hunker down and continue ahead with it. Else, you could find that your profession grinds to a halt. The capacity to fulfill time constraints is something that all heads anticipate from their fighters, which is the reason neglecting to meet them is disapproved of. The result of neglecting to fulfill a time constraint clearly relies upon how significant the undertaking was, yet in the event that you need to appear to be proficient with the goal that you can prevail in your vocation, you need to figure out how to deal with your time viably and keep on showing adequate outcomes as you are ta sked. The military society can be an extreme spot to ace. There are consistently pioneers instructing you, how to do it and when to complete it by. It can appear to be a tornado of requests and desires put upon you, however it is the thing that must be done so as to take care of business, yet to ensure that you are the one still capable carrying out the responsibility. There are numerous reasons why fulfilling time constraints is significant. Reason number one is that the cutoff times forced upon you are not subjective dates for the most part.Chances are acceptable that a task given to one representative is going to influence crafted by numerous different workers. An official may give the non-authorized official or unit sergeant a cutoff time to have the specialized entrusting done by, so it is significant that you have that result prepared when the company sergeant needs it. The official in control may need to get it to a progressively senior official. Fulfilling your time constrain t appears to be somewhat more significant under those conditions. Another motivation behind why it is imperative to fulfill time constraints is that it shows a specific measure of drive and self-discipline.When the unit sergeant says that the entrusting should be finished by Wednesday, it shows that keeping focused is an aptitude that you have on the off chance that you complete that entrusting by Wednesday. Anybody can carry out a responsibility, yet the individuals who can carry out the responsibility under a tad of weight will be the ones who get further along in their vocations. Working under tension is something that will happen regularly in the working scene. Once in a while a pioneer will give somebody a cutoff time just to perceive what their responsibility level to the unit is. The individuals who are truly dedicated to the unit will complete that task by the cutoff time without complaint.Others will just attempt to fault the non-authorized official for the brief timeframe edge or stall until another person gets a move on. A capacity to comply with time constraints shows an expert nearness for yourself and the unit you are relegated to. At the point when the pioneer realizes that the undertaking will be done on schedule, or the company or first sergeant realizes that the venture will be around his work area when he needs it, it will show that you are not playing and pay attention to the entrusting. This will prompt expanded regard for you as a warrior and will build the odds of getting further proficient open doors in the future. The military is loaded up with numerous weights, and fulfilling time constraints consistently is one of those weights. There are numerous reasons given for an entrusting not being done on schedule, however not very many reasons are acknowledged, so it is either carry out the responsibility when it is expected, or simply give the activity to somebody who needs it more. later.Let’s begin our guide!GUIDE ON WRITING THE PERSONAL INFO SECTIONIt’s very obvious that you need to provide some personal information when you are applying for a new job position and you shouldn’t assume that your employer will use the information to try and spy on you, but rather just for the usual b ackground check-up as you will very likely be working with children. That being said, you should look at the Personal Info section as your business card and the usual information which is displayed on a business card is:your full namehome or office addressphone numbere-mailsocial mediaRarely will an employer ask you for your photograph and he should specify that it is required before you send your resume, so you don’t have to worry about it too much. Also, your address sometimes isnt necessary, but you should write it anyway. When it comes to your full name, you should always provide your birth name or, in case youve changed it, the name on your ID card and you should stay clear of nicknames because your employer, colleagues, and students are going to you as Mr. or Mrs. X (X meaning your last name).Tom Klein RightTommy Klein WrongNext, you should create a new E-Mail account which you will be using just for work, and its a good idea to do that for social media as well because its ea sy to mix-up your private life and your work life so keeping those two things separate makes it a lot less difficult to handle. Also, your LinkedIn profile is very important, if you don’t have one then you should create it because it will serve as a secondary resume and you can add everything you’ve accomplished throughout your whole carrier so that your employer knows what other important information he needs to know about you skills you may have that aren’t listed on your resume.Keep your E-Mail addresses clean and professional and use your full name or initials, and the same applies for social media:Contact Informationminniemouse43@gmail.comwww.linkedin.com/in/robert-sommers53980924/twitter.com/little.tea.pot553 WrongWith all of this being said, even though you are working with children, and it’s a relaxed environment, you still need to be a professional.GUIDE ON WRITING THE SUMMARY SECTIONWriting a great summary is one of the most important segments of your resume because in this section you are briefly explaining to your employer what he should expect from you and what do you feel like should be emphasized as being your most important skills and accomplishments. On the contrary, you shouldn’t set high expectations, but rather just two, max three sentences which describe your past experiences and your work ethics so the employer knows if he should continue reading your resume or not.You want to stay clear of writing boring information about yourself which dont explain what your accomplishments were at your past job positions and should focus more on literally nitpicking some of the most important highlights of your career.SummaryI am a college-educated experienced substitute teacher with a bachelors degree in modern history, and I have worked in schools such as Boston Renaissance Charter Public School. I have great communication skills, and I take pride in working with young bright minds and that being said, I feel enthusiastic about transferring my knowledge to young intellectuals. RightSummaryIve graduated from college and got a job as a substitute teacher. I like working with children because their subjects are easier to teach. I think I will do just fine working for your school. Wrong Pro TipSide tip:Write the summary when you finish your resume and that way you have no risks of making expectations which won’t be met and you avoid your summary sounding bland and boring.GUIDE ON WRITING THE EXPERIENCE SECTIONYour experience is very important when you are applying for a new job because every employer wants someone who already has some experience in that line of work so that you don’t need someone to teach you how to do your job. When listing your past work experience, you should write in which period you’ve been an employee at your past workplace, which company, or in this case in which school or academy have you’ve worked for and what was your job title. Also, you should add two or three sentences about your accomplishments at your job or a quick description of your responsibilities but dont write things which fit your job title and which are obvious such as: Right WrongTwo important notes:If you have been teaching 4th graders and lower grade-level, you can write that you’ve managed the classroom’s behavior because at that age it is very important for a student’s well-being that he or she learns discipline. You should list the full name of the school you’ve worked at and the city it’s located in so that your employer can check to see if it is an accredited school.GUIDE ON WRITING THE EDUCATION SECTIONIf you are going to teach a group of students something you need to know the subject you are teaching very well, so a high-school diploma wont cut it.Most schools require a bachelor’s degree, and that’s a bare minimum because they want to ensure that the students get the best education available and that their staff is professional. So if you were a hardworking student back in your college days, now is the time to flaunt with your academic accomplishment, and in your list, you should include:The college you’ve graduated fromYour GPA score if it is highSeminars you’ve attended and projects you’ve been a part ofStudent organizations you’ve joinedIt’s also important to list where did you get your educator’s license and if you’ve completed any other courses or obtained other certificates.A great idea would be to list your education counter-chronological so that you write your most recent academic successes first. Also, you don’t have to list the high-school you’ve graduated from because it’s quite obvious that you’ve finished it since you’ve graduated from college as well.GUIDE ON WRITING THE SKILLS SECTIONLast but not least, we need to dwell a little deep into the Skills section because there are some skills which you should have to be a great, professional substitute teacher and fill in the role of the regular teacher, without changing of the overall flow of the curriculum.Pedagogy is a must-have skill, meaning that you must know how to approach a student with the required learning material and how to make the class interesting for everyone individually but also the whole classroom. You shouldn’t be too strict but also have some authority in the classroom and have great communication skills because you need to remember that the students are there to learn from you and you need to transfer your knowledge in the best way possible so that they can advance academically to the next stage of their education. Also, you should list here which subjects you teach your students and also if you speak another language because that can be very helpful in multicultural environments which schools often are. When listing your skillset, you should avoid writing trivial things such as:SkillsExcellent teaching skills of subjects such as biology and chemistry.Experienced with working with 4th to 8th-grade level studentsGreat at communicating with students and creating group assignmentsFluent in French RightSkillsGreat at teaching students mathExcellent at making a fun atmosphere for studen tsNot too strictCan understand soap operas without subtitles â€" semi bilingual WrongAs you can see you should specify at which grade level do you feel most comfortable working with because not all grade levels have the same needs, so you need to know how to approach your students with the subjects that they need to learn.TIPS TRICKSResume length â€" Ideally, your resume should be just one page long, two pages maximum, but even that can be too much because sometimes you can even fit the whole resume on half a page and it is important to remember that employers don’t really spend that much time on reading resumes so you should keep it short as possible.Highlighting â€" Because your resume should be short, you should use highlights to emphasize things such as your past work experience, education, and skills so you get the employers attention but dont highlight unimportant things because you will seem unprofessional.Bulleting â€" With highlighting, you should also use bullet points as they are much easier to scan and skim read than blocks of text, and the whole resume just looks clearer and nicely organized.Grammar â€" You should send your resume to a proofreader so that you eliminate any possible grammatical errors. It’s no big deal if you have some grammatical errors when you’re writing your CV, but not correcting them will surely damage your reputation, so be careful.Reviewing your resume â€" Apart from proofreading your resume, you should also get it checked by a professional or someone who has seen hundreds of resumes before because they can tell you what you need to add or remove so that your resume seems more professional.Tailoring your resume â€" You should always write a new resume for a specific job position because rarely will you find two job positions which require the same skillset and experience. Also, it’s a bit lazy to just use the same resume over and over again any as you are minimizing your chances of getting the job you’re applyin g for.Resume builder â€" If you still have some doubts about how to write your resume, feel free to try out our resume template builder as it will help you quickly add or delete the sections which you need so that you can tailor your resume for that specific job position.Formatting â€" Always have a physical copy of your resume and take it with you when you have a job interview because maybe your employer didn’t print one out and you should be prepared at any time. Also, make sure to have your resume in both PDF and TXT formats as those are the most standard formats being used in every company.Font â€" Never use handwritten font because it just seems unprofessional and isnt very clear to read. Instead, you should just go with the universal fonts such as Cambria, Calibri, Times New Roman or Arial and be sure to keep your resume all in one font because writing in multiple fonts just seems tacky.Updating â€" You should be updating your resume regularly so that you are always prepared when a perfect job opportunity comes knocking on your door. Be sure to update your social media as well.Check your E-Mail â€" Check your E-Mail at least twice a day because that way you wont miss out on potential replies from your employer because you can never be sure that they will call you on the phone number youve provided them. Check your spam folders as well because some E-Mails get filtered out, unfortunately.Political views â€" Stay clear of expressing your political, religious or other views, especially when you’re applying for a job which involves teaching students because no one wants to turn the plot of that German movie The Wave a reality.CONCLUSIONThats about it when it comes to writing a substitute teacher resume. Weve learned today roughly how your resume should look like and gave you some great examples, and weve also gone through all of the sections explaining how to write your resume in the best way possible.Try to remember which sections you should pay attenti on to the most, what to avoid writing in your resume and how to make your resume look more professional even by just glancing at it.We hope that we’ve answered all of your questions you might had, but if we missed some of them, then you should try our resume builder as it will quickly show you how to properly write a resume using any template that you think fits your next job position the best.Good luck on your job interview as we know you are going to get an E-Mail saying you are hired! Remember to be Grateful and More Advice from a 4th Year Med Student

This interview is the latest in an Accepted.com blog series featuring  interviews with medical school applicants and students, offering readers a behind-the-scenes look at  the med school application process. And now for a follow up interview with Andrea Wenzel who just completed her last year of med school and who will be starting her residency in June. (We first met Andrea last year – you can read our first interview with her here.) Accepted: How does year 4 of med school compare to year 3?   Andrea: Fourth year is so different from third year! I really loved third year because it was the first time I actually felt like I was almost a doctor. I felt like I really contributed to the care of my patients and I was part of the team. Fourth year is a huge change from third year because at my school, we only have three required electives. The majority of the year is spent applying for residency and traveling for interviews. I took a few electives along with my three required clerkships, but most of the year was spent doing things outside of the hospital or clinic. Accepted: Congrats on your recent match! When do you start your residency and where and what will you be doing? Andrea: Thank you! I matched into ophthalmology at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Ophthalmology has a required preliminary medicine or transitional year, which I will be completing at Mayo as well. Everything starts mid-June, so I’m getting ready to move and start my life in Minnesota! Accepted: What would you say was the most challenging aspect of the residency application process? What steps did you take to overcome that challenge? Andrea: The residency application process is long and tiring! First, you have to fill out the application which takes weeks of writing out all your activities, editing your personal statement, reading and re-reading your application to make sure it’s perfect. Then, you have to make sure all your letters of recommendation are in which can be challenging. I had to hunt down a professor to get my letter in on time! After everything is submitted, you just wait for interviews invitations to come. That waiting period is excruciating!! Finally, you spend 2-3 months interviewing all over the country. The interviews are exhausting because most last all day and you have to be â€Å"on† all the time. You have to prepare to answer all kinds of questions, ask questions about each program, appear excited, and interested, it is such a blast, but also draining! I loved the entire process. There were days when I was filled with anxiety, but I just kept reminding myself that I was a strong applicant and everything would work out. Accepted: In all four years of med school, what would you say was your favorite class or rotation? Andrea: That’s such a hard question! During my second year I took a class called, â€Å"Introduction to Clinical Medicine† which was a year-long, 20 credit hour class. The class covered every topic in medicine from cardiology, OBGYN, and pediatrics, to psychiatry, pulmonology and nephrology. It was intense! But I felt like that class really prepared me for third year. I learned so much and really loved it. Also, all our professors for that class were MDs which made it enjoyable. During third year, I honestly loved all my rotations. I think my two favorites were neurology and surgery. During those two clerkships, I really felt like I was contributing to the care of my patients which made me love coming in every day. I felt like I was a valuable member of the team. Accepted: If you could offer incoming med students ONE piece of advice what would it be? Andrea: One piece of advice that has helped me is to remember to be grateful. There are so many times in medical school that we all get burnt out and feel bitter about studying and missing out on other parts of life. But in reality, we are so blessed to be able to study medicine. We don’t have to spend our days working out in a field to provide for our family. We get to spend our days in a comfortable library learning how to care for the sick – that is amazing. Whenever I feel discouraged I just try to remember how lucky I am! Accepted: In non-med school news, whats been going on with you How are the food and fitness aspects of your life going? Any new health tips you can share with us? Andrea: My non-med school life is great! I am getting married in May and I’m super excited about that. Health and fitness have also been wonderful! I’m currently doing a 30 day yoga challenge that requires me to go to 30 hot yoga classes in 30 days. I’m on day 17 and I love it! I already feel stronger than I did a few weeks ago. For one-on-one guidance on your med school applications, please see our catalog of med school admissions services. Thank you Andrea for sharing your story with us! Operations Management in Action - Free Essay Example

Sample details Pages: 9 Words: 2641 Downloads: 2 Date added: 2017/06/26 Category Management Essay Type Analytical essay Did you like this example? Operations Management in Action For this assignment we have been asked to research the Industry sector, choose a business within that sector, and then analyse and evaluate the business we have chosen from an operations manager point of view. First we must know what the Industry sector is. According to oxford dictionary the word industry means à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‹Å"Economic activity concerned with the processing of raw materials and manufacture of goodsà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ (Oxford Dictionary. 2014).This means that the industry sector have businesses within it that deal with the processing of raw materials and manufacture of goods. This is also called the secondary sector or manufacturing sector. In 2009 the UK manufacturing sector generated  £140bn in revenue this is 11% of the UK total economy. This sector also employed 2.6 million people which equals out to be 8% of the UK workforce. The whole sector itself is spilt up into 14 different industries by the g overnment which include textiles and chemicals (BIS. 2010). The business I have chosen is Kier Group plc. The reason that Kier Group plc fit within the Industry sector/secondary sector is because this is a construction firm that deals with turning raw materials in a finished products i.e. turning bricks into buildings. Kier Group plc offers their services to the public and private sectors, these services include à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‹Å"civil engineering, mining, mechanical electrical design and installationà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¦ and 3D modelingà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ (Kier Construction. 2014). An example of public sector customer would be the Northampton Borough Council in creating their new  £7 million North Gate Bus Station (Northampton Chronicle Echo. 2014). An example of a private sector customer would be Network Rail Infrastructure Ltd, as Kier Group plc did the Kingà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s Cross Station roof refurbishment (Kier Group. 2013). Kier Group plcà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s clients are often other business or large public bodies such as Councils due to their ability and proven track record with multi-million pound contracts that they are asked to do or win the contracts against other competitors such as Balfour Beatty PLC. Kier Group plc operate on a global scale however some parts within Kier Group plc work within the U.K. Any organisation can be shown as multiple of input/output diagrams in a hierarchy format. At the bottom of this hierarchy would be the customerà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s needs being transformed into consumer satisfaction (Muhlemann, A. Oakland, J. Lockyer, K. 1993). As every business is made with the customer in mind even if the businesses overall goal could be to maximise profits they still need the customer. However other input/output diagrams in the hierarchy differ from business to business. As a car mechanic shop wouldnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t use the same ways to satisfy consumers as a bridal dress shop would. As Kier Group plc deals with const ruction it has a specific inputs and outputs. Five inputs of Kier Group plc would be skilled labour, high quality equipment, energy, building materials, and basic project designs. Three outputs of the company would be buildings, infrastructure, and recycled materials. Skilled labour is an input for Kier Group plc because to be able operate as a building business they would need skilled labour. This is because the jobs that the business could be doing may have a high risk of doing lots of damage not just moneyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s terms but in personnel terms as well. This would also be beneficial to the business as it could lead to being more productive due to the skilled labour however it would be costly hiring someone thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s highly skilled or even over skilled for the job rather than someone who could just about do the job. But in the companyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s overview they want to offer clients à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‹Å"world-class solutionsà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ (Kier Group. 2014)which suggests that the highly skilled labour would be used. High quality equipment is would be a specific input for Kier Group plc due to the nature of the job that the business gets inquired about. These can be very complex jobs such as the Kings Cross Station roof refurbishment. Not only did they refurbish an iconic building roof, the station had to stay open with thousands of people walking underneath the building work. This shows the high quality equipment would be needed as an input. The reason that energy is needed as an input as the business would be using computers to design projects and also it would be needed to power equipment on site. It is a needed input in this business. Building materials are a vital input to the business as they are needed to get to the final product. Without these, the business would not be able to run as a construction business. Kier Group plc need to start from a basic project design to be able to make what the customer want like t he business to make. Thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s is why basic project designs is a needed input for the business. As Kier Group plc have architects that would design the final product from these basic project designs whether it would be a finish building or a new part for railways. A specific output for Kier Group plc would be buildings as this is the main product/good that the business produces. They way in which this would be produced from inputs would be via project process. Project production is a type of production that has low volume of products but high variety between each one. This means that each new project would be different from the last using different materials with different quantities. They also have to be made in a fix location which is one of the classifications of a project production. During the production of each building uses a mixed process technology it uses manual and mechanised. This means that during the production of each building there are parts which ar e done via hand with no machinery and there are parts where machinery is utilised but under the control of humans (Evens, J. 1993). Infrastructure in another output of Kier Group plc as it doesnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t only make buildings it also builds roads, railway parts and much more which is a vital part in the UKà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s infrastructure. These would also be produced in a project production as each part of infrastructure they make would be different from another part. One other output the Kier Group plc produces are recycled materials. Kier Group plc has a recycling service which is used in many counties. Recycled materials go through many processes. It is made via continuous flow production as it has a high product volume, thereà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s some although not much product variety. During the processes the recycled material goes though there are a high number of automated and specialised equipment that does a large amount of the work. There is also labour that take out any rubbish that canà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t be recycled or shouldnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t be in that particular recycling line this doesnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t require high skills. The reason that it is not a Mass production is that there isnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t any variety between each product at the end (Evens, J. 1993). The demand for the products and services the Kier Group plc produce usually depend on the economic state of the country but there are also other factors the affect the demand for the business. These factors include: globalisation, demand for more sustainable construction, demographic changes and increasing importance for technology use in construction. The demand for the products and services that Kier Group plc produce usually depend on the economic state of the country but there are also other factors the affect the demand for the business. These factors include: globalisation, demand for more sustainable construction, demographic changes and increasing impor tance for technology use in construction. The reason that the state of the economy affects the demand for Kier Group plcà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s products and services is because buildings and infrastructure is capital which helps boost long term growth. These are the first things that are cut if the economy was to go into decline. When the recession hit in 2008 according to House of Commons there was a fall by 6.2% in gross value added for the construction industry, followed by a 7.9% fall in GVA, then an increase by 1.1% in 2011, and then followed by a 6.0% drop in GVA during the double dip recession (Rhodes, C. 2013). This data shows there is a correlation between the construction industry including Kier Group plc and the state of the economy. The demand for more sustainable construction also impacts the stability of the demand of Kier Group plcà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s products and services because if the business doesnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t offer the right amount of sustainable construc tion or by offering à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‹Å"greenà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ alternatives they may lose customers and clients. As new legislation is soon to be coming into action due to the UKà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s recent air pollution issues this would mean a possible overhaul of more carbon producing processes. However to overcome this Kier Group plc currently generates 10% of its revenue by using recycled material, low energy alternatives and more sustainable materials (Fry, C. 2014) Every business needs demand to be able to sell its good and/or services however you need to be able to have enough capacity to meet this demand. Capacity planning is vital in operations strategies. Capacity is best when it around 75-90% utilised. Having capacity between these levels means that you should still be able to cope with new clients without having to turn larger clients down and also you wonà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t be running with excess capacity. Excess capacity is a large cost on businesses and may lead to layo ffs and department closures (Hill, T. 1991) There are 3 different strategies that a business can use to plan capacity to meet demand. These policies are: Matching Capacity with Demand, Excess Capacity, and Capacity Shortage Policy. Matching capacity with demand means that the business tries to keep as close to demand as they possibly can. This policy means that it sometimes has excess capacity in which it has the ability to get more clients or customers. However it also means there is a shortage of capacity. During these times a business would have to subcontract out work to get a short term increased capacity or they would lose sales this could come from poor quality of work from being rushed to compete work. A Capacity Shortage Policy is when there is a gap between the demand and the capacity where demand is always higher than capacity. As there is a high capacity utilisation this means there is a strong return on investment. This type of policy is usually best for goods or services that usually relate to status or are in fashion. This would mean that there is a high capacity utilisation which in turn leads to a strong return on investment. For example the iPhone 4 White. When it came out it was being sold quicker than it was being made. The way that Kier Group plc plan their capacity is by a strategy called Excess Capacity Policy (Fry, Colin. 2014). This policy means that the business has a goal of maintaining enough capacity to be able to meet with demand or to reduce the chance of not meeting demand. Although this policy can lead to higher costs than the other two polices it is the best policy for this business. This is because the business does not know if they are going to win a bid for a client so there needs to be spare capacity in case they do win the bid. As large construction businesses get invited to present their bid on large projects so the business always need to be prepared for these invites. Kier Group plc could better utilise operations management to counter some of the challenges that it has in the ever changing market place. It could utilise Lean Operations more this is because there is going to be more legislation regarding reducing waste and carbon footprint. Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s better to be proactive to changes in legislation than to be reactive as it shows the business has a strong CSR which customers and clients look for. Lean Operations is minimising the amount of waste there is in order to operate quicker, produce higher quality work and also to operate at low costs. The reason that lean operation is suited for Kier Group plc is because in the lean approach there is a focus on producing only when there is a need to produce, this does mean there is a lower capacity utilisation however this fits in well with the Excess Capacity Policy has the business already is implementing. Some of the techniques that could be used in lean operations for the business could be JIT supply and Total Involv ement. JIT supply means just in time supply. This means that you wouldnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t receive materials until you need those materials (Hill, T. 1987). This would be useful in the business because it means there wouldnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t been material they donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t need wasting space in a construction site. For example the wouldnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t need a road tarmaer when the drainage is still 3 days away from being completed not only could it be wasting space it could be in the way of workers increasing the distance from the materials theyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢re using to the place where they need to use them. If 10 workers had to go an extra 20 seconds out of their way whilst this tarmacer was 3 days early and each worker had to do this trip 40 times a day that adds an extra 400 minutes on their travel overall on the 3 days the tarmacer was there. With JIT supply the tarmacer would arrive on the day it was needed saving the 400 minutes which could have been wasted. Total involvement is when everyone within the business is aware of the lean approach of the business. If everyone is doing it, it would become second nature to abide by the 5Sà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s of lean operations. These are sort, straighten, shine, standardise and sustain (Muhlemann, A. Oakland, J. Lockyer, K. 1993) Sort means to eliminate what is not needed and to keep whatever is needed in the production of goods. Straighten means to place tools and equipment is such a way that is it easily accessible as lots of time is spent looking for tools that have been misplaced. Shine is to keep things clean and tidy. This could lead to less injuries due to slipping over dirt or waste packaging. Standardise means to keep to a certain level of cleanliness and sustain is to keep to this standardisation throughout each product life cycle. These methods of lean operations keep Kier Group plc near the top of the construction market as they would be less wasteful, operate with lower co sts and also could lead to a better workforce from total involvement as everyone would feel they are impacting the businesses performance. Native Americans And American History Essay - 969 Words

Native Americans, or Indians, as they were mistakenly called, have been the â€Å"pathetic footnotes to the main course of American history† (Axtell 981). But James Axtell, the author of Colonial America without the Indians: Counterfactual Reflections, would beg to differ. He says that instead, Indians played a key role in making America great. James Murray gives another term to describe America’s greatness: America’s â€Å"exceptionalism.† Throughout his article Axtell makes many points as to why Indians played a vital role in â€Å"American Exceptionalism†. He even says that America wouldn’t have been colonized nearly as soon if the Indians were gone, because Columbus would know he was not in the Indies and move on. So because they simply existed in the first place, Axtell says they were significant in the history of our country. Furthermore, he says Indians specifically played a vital role in the exceptionality of America’s early ec onomy, culture, and historical events and places. I never thought about how much the Indians contributed to the economy of early colonial America. However, without the Native Americans â€Å"There would have been no maize or Indian corn, the staple crop grown throughout the colonial period to feed people and sometimes fatten livestock for export† (Axtell 988). I believe Mr. Axtell raises an excellent point in this statement. An Analysis of Things Fall Apart and Antigone - 1027 Words

Behind every great person in life, there lies a person who assisted them in achieving their greatness. In the novels Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe and Antigone by Sophocles, this idea is portrayed perfectly. The way that Achebe developed Ezinma throughout the novel, I believe, is what was used to show readers the softer and gentler side of Okonkwo. In conjunction with that, Sophocles used Ismene to be the more tame and obedient side of Antigone. Through the descriptions and ways that these two female characters affect the main characters in each of these novels, Ezinma from Things Fall Apart and Ismene from Antigone, it is apparent that they both value their families, but Ismene would choose the law over her family while Ezinma would†¦show more content†¦But, Ezinma resisted the priestess when she came to take her away. Achebe wrote that Ezinma was â€Å"crying loudly, calling on her mother† (Achebe, 102). This shows that she cares for her mother and trusts her e nough to want to stay with her instead of going with the priestess. Another tradition in the villages was for the daughter to choose a suitor whom she thought would be best for her and would make her father happy. As for Ezinma, she preferred pleasing her father over anything else. So, when Okonkwo mentioned that he would â€Å"be happy† if she married when they returned home to Umuofia, Ezinma â€Å"had seen clearly all the thought and hidden meaning behind the few words† and she agreed to follow her father’s request (Achebe, 173). This is significant because there was no law or custom that said that she had to listen to her father, because she was a grown woman. Finally, Achebe entered a very subtle scene close to the beginning of the book that was quite significant to this idea that Ezinma honored her family. When she was bringing her father food, Ezinma asked him if she could bring his chair to the wrestling match in the village, to which he replied that it was â€Å"a boy’s job† ( Achebe, 44). This reveals that Ezinma would go out of the norms to be close to her father and to please him. Through elusive yet significant ways, Achebe eased Ezinma’s loyalty to her family and, most importantly, her father into the novel’s timeline. Some employers are now demanding more education from their employees along with in field experience than ever before and the job market is increasing competitive for those who want to succeed in their career. We will write a custom essay sample on Digital Education or any similar topic only for you Order Now Traditional Learning provides the oldest method of education. Allowing the student to see the professor face to face and ask pertinent questions concerning their classes. Students have the ability to meet with other students for study groups and friendship. During my research, students who choose the traditional method of education believed that the face-to-face students enjoy the ability to learn with others, allows for class instruction, presentations, live speaking and they love the ability to get to know their instructors. Relevant materials: How Businesses Can Learn From Text Mining Students in the face-to-face courses are able to get together in study groups that help them achieve better in testing. On-line Learning provides new age technology to widen the educational scope. With new age technology, I sense enormous excitement about the promise of online learning to prepare today’s students to succeed in an increasingly technology-driven global economy. Prospective students are facing a new kind of college experience — online education. It employs portable devices, computers and PDA’s to facilitate learning. With advances in information technology, portable devices, computers and PDA’s have traditionally been seen as a way of carrying information in a more convenient format, with longer battery life than a laptop computer and less weight than a bag full of reference books. Virtual classroom settings and message boards offer a variety of learning techniques. A setting usually contains an electronic whiteboard. The instructor presents instruction and interacts with students in real-time. Virtual classrooms include chat functions and often the ability for participants to speak to one another. It also, it allows student to learning without having to commute. For those students who are not able to attend their regular classes and colleges can easily carry with their higher education through online education mode of study. Students can create study environment of their like, they can make their own schedule; they can carry education while on the move, along with business they can pursue with their higher education. Best practices, a sustainable effort to extract and establish the best learning environment. Online is a quickly growing means of education for all students. It allows students to work and learn at their own pace without the unyielding time restrictions of traditional learning. Online education provides access to learning materials at any time. This allows students the flexibility to schedule their learning around families, jobs and other activities. Technology also provides accessibility and time management. Working while going to school is the potential applicability that studies may have on your job. In other words, it’s one thing to go to class and learn about something in theory, and it’s another to take that theory and put it into practice. Students who work can apply their newly acquired knowledge immediately to their jobs; they can also focus their studies on the kinds of real-world problems that professionals face daily in the workplace. It collaborates both students and teachers just alike from across the globe. No technological invention in the history of man has connected the people of the world like the Internet. While there is still a huge disparity between those who have access to the Internet and those who don’t, the mere fact that any of us can communicate across the globe speaks to the importance of this medium. Many times the web sites we visit in a course are based in another country. What better place to find out about the works of Michelangelo than to go to Italy (virtually, of course)? What better way to learn about the Amazon rain forest or the history of China or the customs of islanders in the South Pacific than to visit those places online? And if you participate in global learning days or other online events, you may even meet and make friends with someone in another country. It is a small world, after all. The point is that we live in a diverse-changing world that is ripe with new possibility. The ability to learn new information or a new skill whenever you want and wherever you want offers far greater opportunities for education than ever before. The scope and reach of education broadens to far greater horizons that perhaps ever imagined. ______________________________________________ REVIEW I’d like to begin, if I may, by just clearing up a couple of things. Online education is not a tool to extract a better learning environment. Learning environments aren’t extracted with tools. A spade, however, is a tool that can be used to extract a potato from the ground. The important thing to know about potatoes, however, is that whether they are good or blighted is independent of the specific tool of extraction. Online education is also not one thing. The Khan Academy provides free educational videos. Stanford provides free online educational courses. EssayJudge. com provides brilliantly insightful reviews. (Honest! ) Then there’s a galaxy of pseudo-educational sites and lousy overpriced university sites and fraudulent degree mills for the gullible and the desperate and the cheaters and the pretentious and the ne’er-do-wells. So if you want to compare online education with traditional education, you need to be clearer about what exactly you mean by online education. Online education facilitates plagiarism. For instance you can go to sites that list the seven benefits of online education or the ten advantages of online courses and then cut and paste into your own essay, without attribution, vapid sentences like: â€Å"What better way to learn about the Amazon rain forest or the history of China or the customs of islanders in the South Pacific than to visit those places online? † or â€Å"Students who work can apply their newly acquired knowledge immediately to their jobs; they can also focus their studies on the kinds of real-world problems that professionals face daily in the workplace. â€Å" How to cite Digital Education, Essay examples

There he was singer, teacher ND composer until his death. Though his music must have been influenced by the culture of Italy, Squall, the greatest of the singer-composers of the Melamine register of sculpturally and In every other sense that really matters, he was a Frenchman. The early 16th century marked the end of the Early Renaissance and the transition Into the late Renaissance. Squall was considered the master of the polyphonic form in which a melody is sung against that same melody four scale steps above or below the original.Polyphonic music was also transitioning into the melody and harmony which we are most familiar with today. The Netherlands School, which was comprised of Squall and his cultural countrymen who worked In Italy, were a critical force in this transition. The congregation Is expected to recite traditional prayers and responses at various time during the ritual.Composers set these responses, as well as the appropriate psalm reading and other hymns, to USIA when they compose a Mass. Though the context of the music is sacred religious music, the environment that commissioned it was anything but sacred. By the sixteenth century, political power and material wealth had corrupted the Roman Catholic Church. Musicians flocked to Rome because money abounded to commission great works for Masses that were used as excuses for fine entertainment. The religious traditions of the Church, as well as the individual leaders, were the subject of increasing contempt throughout Europe. The Protestant Reformation was soon to follow. Though the roots of the Catholic Reformation were starting to grow, they had not yet manifested themselves in Rome, with one exception. Monks in religious orders were attempting to return the structure of the Mass to pre-medieval styles. This lead to a great demand for new music to be written for these celebrations and It Is why so much of the music of the time Is In this form.FIFO pretentious compositions, such as the lays of the troubadours, minnesingers, and minnesingers, and the madrigal. The folk-song of olden times, springing directly room and resembling the music of the Church, was often employed as motif or scants firms in masses and other liturgical compositions, a proceeding which would not be allowed now-a-days. Scants Firms is a musical composition style in which a motif is repeated in different parts of the Mass. It gives the congregation a sense of unity and predictability.A lariat of this style is to paraphrase the motif instead. Joaquin used paraphrasing In Missal Panged Lingua. Lust as there are scants-firms Masses that point in the direction of the parody Mass, here are others in which the scants-firms technique leads into highly developed paraphrase writing. In these works the permeation of the polyphonic complex by the scants firms is so considerable that, if one did not examine the tenor, one might believe the technique employed to be that of the paraphrase Mass pure and simple. Analysis reveals, however, that, in such works as the Masses Eave Maria Stella , Seedcases , and Dad peace , and in parts of the Missal De Beat Virgins , it is only in the tenor (or its canonic comes) that the pre-existent melody is present in complete form. These four works, by virtue of their style, seem to point the way to the genuine paraphrase Mass that is one of Jonquils greatest masterpieces, the Missal Panged Lingua . Polyphonic music predates our modern system of music notation.Gregorian chant, the oldest known type of music for the Mass, is chanted entirely in unison. Therefore it is important to know the pitch of the note and its relative length and rhythm as compared to the notes around it. However, the exact duration of the note and the meter in which the music is structured is not required and is generally left up to the interpretation of the musicians. Sequins music stretched this notation system to its breaking point. The development of harmony and counterpoint, in which musical lines have different rhythms, required the development of our modern notation system not long after Jonquils death. Rhea most obvious difference between historical and contemporary performances of music, it would nearly always be used in a church setting. Today it is part of western classical musics history and is quite acceptable in a secular concert. Though it contains variations on a secular piece, which is now forbidden in Catholic LiturgicalMusic, it can still be used in a liturgical setting because its composition predates the restrictions. At the 1971 Joaquin festival, the work shop that considered text placement showed little progress in determining the historical matching of words to notes. A comparison of all the sources for the Gloria of the Missal De Beat Virgins showed a fair consistency in the placement of ligatures, indicating that in most cases they perhaps ought not be broken when fitting text to music. But this is not a really helpful finding, since the rhythmic motion in Jonquils music is based upon a membrane tacts, so that ligatures are too rare to be taken as a guide. And when a detailed comparison of the actual text placement in half a dozen sources for passages in the Masses Fortune Desperate and Panged Lingua was presented, it proved only what most of us suspected anyway that historical precedent is really of no assistance in the underlay of text. Cause the words of the Mass are determined ahead of time, some performers view the words as a secondary to the music. The author of this paper, however, disagrees. My own experience has shown that there is no more potent device for bringing out he cross rhythms, syncopation, and other textural intricacies which characterize the florid Flemish style of the fifteenth and early sixteenth centuries than canny deployment of the text in melodramatic passages.Such an approach demands a thorough study of the rhythmic properties of each line on the part of the editor/ performer, but it seems that such should be the true purpose behind the underlying of the text for modern performance. Risking brings up other issues involved in the performance practice of this piece. Rough Joaquin often performed in very small groups, with as few as one person on a art, his music was popular enough during his life that larger groups were singing the pieces as well. So it is not clear what size of choir would produce an authentic performance. Also, it is not known whether emphasis should be placed on the scants flumes, or whether the parts should be given equal weight. There is insufficient options, sometimes even adding instruments. Missal Panged Lingua marks a critical turning point in Renaissance music in particular and Western music in general. Joaquin honed his art to perfection in this piece. To surpass him Western music had to change its entire structure.
